The Monkees were an American television comedy series about a fictional rock-and-roll band that originally aired from 1966 to 1968. The fictional band featured in the NBC series, made up of Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Micky Dolenz, all playing fictionalized versions of themselves under their own names. The pop-rock quartet made up of the actor/musicians hired to play the fictional Monkees, which released numerous recordings from 1966 to 1971 (initially in conjunction with the TV series), several of which constituted huge commercial successes. The Monkees also released new recordings in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s
